For Mechanical Engineering students of various Engineering Colleges in Amaravati Region, a 2-Day workshop on “Non-Destructive Testing Methods and their Applications” in Mechanical Engineering is conducted during 19-20 February 2018 and concluded today, at Vasireddy Venkatadri Institute of Technology, Nambur, under the aegis of its Department of Mechanical Engineering.

This advanced workshop is organized by Institute of Engineers India (IEI), Student Chapter-VVIT and Mr. Preetham, Level-II, Instructor, NDT VIDAL, Mumbai, acted as a chief guest and Resource Person for this 2-day workshop.

The Chief Guest Sri Preetham, after formally inaugurating the Program, addressed the participants about the importance of being aware of advancements in Mechanical Engineering and enlightened them about the Non Destructive Testing Techniques (NDT).  The entire workshop focused on giving hands-on experience to the final year students on NDT. Mr. Preetham emphasized that NDT is gaining experience day-by-day and emphasized that the recent multi-faceted growth in the Mechanical Engineering will harness the extensive use of it. He said a numerous job opportunities and lack of trained Mechanical Engineers in NDT specialization is observed. This NDT workshop encompassed all the NDT methods with respect to American and British standards so as to get International Job Opportunities. NDT has lots of applications in Mechanical Engineering Industries. Each Method of NDT has its own merits and demerits. Sri Preetham suggested that each individual should have a great knowledge, observation and inference on each method. He also informed that NDT has levels of Certification like Level -1 for Diploma holders, Level -2 for B.E/B.TECH students and Level-3 for Engineers with Level-II certification and a year of Experience.

Sri Preetham commended the efforts of VVIT for conducting this kind of Advanced Programs for making the Mechanical Engineering students skillful and suitable for the Industry needs.

Dr.Y.Mallikarjuna Reddy, Principal of the host institute, VVIT, in this regard, informed that this kind of training programs will update the students towards the industry needs and fulfill their thirst for advanced technology. Dr. Reddy also stated that through these sessions the participants will get awareness on various cutting edge technological aspects of Mechanical Engineering.

Dr.K.Satyanarayana, HOD, Mechanical Engineering, VVIT, said that VVIT is always a step ahead in conducting this kind of advanced workshops throughout the year, for the benefit of their students and faculty. He also informed that the workshop is well-planned to meet the requirements of the upcoming engineers in this NDT specialization and the objectives were achieved by the participants who are enrolled in good number from nearby engineering colleges.
