The department of Mechanical Engineering, NIT Warangal has organized a one week faculty development program on 3D Printing in Engineering Education from 5th to 10th June 2017.Dr. Y. Ravi Kumar and Prof. L. Krishnanand were the coordinators for the program.
Day 1: 05/06/2017
Due to late running of train we have missed the inaugural function.The first session was taken by Dr. Y. Ravi Kumar, who introduced 3D printing to the participants. Fundamentals, concept and need of 3D Printing were dealt with elaborately. In the evening session the participants were given two assignments to create cube, cuboid, cylinder, sphere and torus in Creo Software.
Day 2: 06/06/2017
The first session started with classification of 3D printing taken by Dr. Y. Ravi Kumar. In second session Prof. L. Krishnanand explained the file conversion from 3D modelling to STL (Stereolithography) format.In the evening session the participants were given two assignments to create cube, cuboid, cylinder, sphere and torus with hole in Creo Software.
Day 3: 07/06/2017
In the first session 3D Printing Processes (Material Extrusion, Sheet Lamination) were explained by Dr. Y. Ravi Kumar. In second session 3D Printing’s Industrial Case Studies were presented by Mr. K. Guru Prasad Rao, Director, Imaginarium, Mumbai.In the evening session the participants were given Hands-on Session training on Build-setup Preparation in an Open Source Software CURA.
Day 4: 08/06/2017
In the first session, taken by Dr. Y. Ravi Kumar, Design and Development of Low Cost 3D Printers were dealt. In second session, Dr.S.Surya Kumar, Associate Professor, IIT Hyderabad, 3D printing for large sized classes were discussed.He explained at the design of syllabus for 1st B.Tech course and activities done by the students in their institute.In the evening session the participants were given Hands-on Session on 3D Printing.
Day 5: 09/06/2017
The first session was taken by Dr. Y. Ravi Kumar on Modelling of Medical Implants and Curriculum Design & Development. In second session Dr. C.P. Paul, Head, Laser AM Lab., RRCAT, Indore explained their experiences on Laser Additive Manufacturing:A Game Changer Technology. In the evening session Dr.Kanmani Subbu, Mech. Engg, NITW dealt with Rapid Tooling Applications of 3D Printing. At the end of the day an examination was conducted by the organizers. Based on the marks obtained, assignments submitted and the attendance, best participant selection was made.
Day 6: 10/06/2017
The results of best participant contest were announced. Dr. M. Kedar Mallik (VVIT) and Mr. Muthu Kumar from Tamil Nadu were identified as the best participants. Both of them got same marks in all. The first session started with 3D printing in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeries on Real Case studies by Dr. Y Ravi Kumar. In the second session on 3D Digitizing and Reverse Engineering by Prof. A. Venugopal. The last session was taken by Prof. L. Krishnanand on Standards & Standardization of 3D Printing.
In the valedictory function, Dr. Y. Ravi Kumar advised the participants of the training program to continue their learning in the field of 3D printing techniques.With distribution of certificates to the participants by the coordinator of TLC, NITW the program was concluded.
