Vasireddy Venkatadri Institute of Technology, under the aegis of its Computer Science & Engineering, Information Technology Departments, inaugurated the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Student Chapter & Women Chapter (ACM-W), on November 27, 2017, under Guntur-VVIT.

The departments of CSE & IT of VVIT have an active student chapter under the Nation-level Computer Society of India (CSI) and now they got the chapters under the world famous Professional society ACM for all students and for Women students especially. After the official inaugural of VVIT GUNTUR ACM Student and VVIT GUNTUR ACM- Women Student Chapters, they have conducted a Technical Talk on “Real time applications of Machine Learning" by an eminent & scholarly resource person Dr. Natwar Modani, Engineering Manager and Senior Computer Scientist at Adobe Systems India Private Limited and also an alumna of Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.  

The Chief Guest and key note speaker of this inaugural session, Dr. Natwar Modani, after formally inaugurating the event, addressed the gathering about the importance of having chapters of professional societies and the benefits that they get. Dr.Natwar, emphasized that the Association for Computing Machinery is an international learned society for computing. It was founded in 1947 and is the world's largest scientific and educational computing society. It is a not-for-profit professional membership group, which focuses on following activities that are useful to its members

  • serving as a professional network for individuals who are involved with the science and technology of computing

  • encouraging students to take an active interest in the emerging and exciting world of computing

  • facilitating the organization of high-quality ACM conferences in India

  • providing logistical support to grow more ACM professional and student chapters

  • enhancing access to the ACM Digital Library and publications for ACM members in India

  • increasing the participation of ACM members in India across all dimensions of ACM

Dr.Natwar, emphasized that ACM-Women Student Chapter is meant exclusively for the all-round development of Women in the Computer Science Profession by uniting computing fraternity among women.Dr.Natwar also commended the genuine efforts of VVIT for keeping their students in connection with the outside world, to update them technically in a professional manner. In this regard Sri Sagar emphasized that VVIT always takes every action for the all round professional development of their students, for which these Professional Societies would help in acquiring knowledge on new technologies, showcasing their talents and assessing themselves in the global technological arena. He wished all the members of ACM –Student and ACM –Women Student chapters to add value to themselves in every event under this ACM.  Dr. Natwar in the afternoon session gave away a technical talk on “Real time applications of Machine Learning" and inspired the members by giving enormous information on the current advancements and technological trends in the domain of Machine Learning.

Dr.Y. Mallikarjuna Reddy, Principal of the Host institute, congratulated all the new student members and women members of ACM Chapters and mentioned about the perks of being an ACM member. Dr.Reddy also spoke about how ACM like International Professional Societies can be influential for a student, in knowing about the various advancements in technical fields. Dr.Reddy stated that VVIT has nearly 10 national and international professional bodies with which various departments are associated and established student-chapters for the benefit of their students and faculty. Dr.R.Eswariah, Prof & Head, CSE, Dr.A.Kalavati, Prof & Head, IT Department informed that the ACM Professional Society is one of the globally popular and most functioning Society and they are scrupulously planning to conduct more activities that the students can get the best out of these chapters.

Sri Sagar, Chairman of VVIT along with other management members felicitated the Chief Guest Dr.Natwar Modani, for his eloquent and motivational lecture on Machine Learning. Chairman of VVIT, Sri Sagar, Administrative Secretary Sri S.Badari Prasad, Joint Secretary Sri M.SreeKrishna, Principal Dr.Y.Mallikarjuna Reddy, Professor & Dean N.Kumara Swamy, Dr A.Kalavati, HOD-IT, Dr R Eswariah, HOD-CSE, Dr N.Koteswaramma , HOD-Computer Applications Department, faculty members along with student members of ACM Chapters were participated in this program.
