The Department of CIVIL Engineering has conducted A 6-Day Faculty Development Program on “Modelling and Simulation Studies in Civil Engineering Practices Using ANSYS” from 5th December to 11th December, 2018. This program is conducted mainly for the benefit of the Faculty and PG Students of Civil Engineering background. Few final year B. Tech students from other colleges were also allowed to participate to learn the basics of ANSYS software which helps them for their project works. A total of 22 participants participated including Faculty, P. G.  and U. G. students from other colleges such as Chandigarh University, Dhanekula Institute of Technology, BVC Institute of Technology and Science and so on. The FDP covered Finite Element Modeling and Analysis of Solids / Structures (FEAS), Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamic analysis (CFD) using ANSYS software for the six days respectively.

ANSYS is a widely accepted powerful general purpose finite element analysis software tool to simulate strength, toughness, elasticity, temperature distribution, electromagnetism, fluid flow, and other attributes. ANSYS is used to determine how a product will function with different specifications, without building test products or conducting crash tests. For example, ANSYS software may simulate how a bridge will hold up after years of traffic, how to best process salmon in a cannery to reduce waste, or how to design a slide that uses less material without sacrificing safety. Typically ANSYS users break down larger structures into small components that are each modeled and tested individually. A user may start by defining the dimensions of an object, and then adding weight, pressure, temperature and other physical properties. The FEAS and SSI were performed with the help of ANSYS APDL. The CFD analysis is performed using ANSYS WORKBENCH.

In the Inaugural function on Day -1, all the Dignitaries lightened the Lamp. After Lightening of Lamp and Prayer Song, Dr. T. Sreedhar Babu, Professor and HOD,  Civil Engineering Department, in his opening address, welcomed all the participants and advised them to utilize the sessions effectively.  Dr. Y. Mallikarjuna Reddy, Principal, addressed the gathering by explaining about the present day competition in the field of Civil engineering and suggested them to learn and keep in touch with the recent advancements in application of technology to the field of Civil Engineering. resource person Dr. C. Ravi Kumar Reddy was welcomed and introduced to the participants by the Head of the Civil Engineering  Department Dr. T. Sreedhar Babu. Dr. C. Ravi Kumar Reddy did his Ph.D. in the area of Soil – Structure Interaction (SSI) from NIT - Warangal. He worked at Bapatla Engineering College and as Professor and Head at KLU. Presently he is Professor and Head, Department of Civil Engineering, KHIT.
