Mr. Krishna Chaitanya Velaga, a final year Mechanical Engineering student of Vasireddy Venkatadri Institute of Technology, Nambur, was awarded a full scholarship by Wikimedia Foundation (USA), to attend Wikimania 2018 in Cape Town, South Africa. This scholarship will cover all the expenses for Mr. Krishna Chaitanya’s participation in Wikimania, which is to be held 18-22 July 2018 in Cape Town. This event is an annual and international event that brings together nearly 1000 Wikimedians from around the world in order to determine the future strategy of Wikipedia and its sister projects.
Mr. Krishna Chaitanya Velaga has been selected out of many thousands of aspiring Wikimedians around the globe, for his dedication and participation the Wikimedia moment and his potential value addition to the ongoing Wikimedia projects. Sri Sagar commended the efforts of Mr. Krishna Chaitanya and attributed his achievement as an outcome of stewardship and perseverance towards the Wikimedia Mission.
VVIT Principal Dr.Y.Mallikarjuna Reddy congratulated Mr. Krishna Chaitanya upon his achievement and expressed that the mission and vision of VVIT are providentially in line with the holy intentions of this kind of global movements as Wikimedia movement.
Dr. Reddy also reckoned several contributions of Mr. Krishna Chaitanya towards featured articles, featured lists, A-class articles, DYKs, reviews and several significant activities he has organized along with other students of VVIT. Dr. Reddy also reminded that Mr Chaitanya has played an active role in Train-the Trainer 2017, VIVA-VVIT-Editathon 2017, OpenCon 2018 New Delhi etc. Mr.Chaitanya also secured notable roles in Wikimedia as Member-Executive Committee of Wikimedia India, Coordinator-WikiProject Military History of English Wikipedia, former Partnerships-Coordinator and Outreach-Coordinator for The Wikipedia library. Mr. Krishna Chaitanya also got several prestigious awards titled, Featured Wikimedian of the Month, Awesome Wikipedian, Star Coordinator etc.
